Welcome to

Muddy Boots Horse Farm & Rescue,

where every hoofbeat tells a story of hope and healing.

Restoring the spirits of broken horses so they can, in turn, touch the hearts of humans who feel lost in their journey.

From Rock-Bottom to the Saddle, Recovery Starts Here

Introducing:
Project Unbridled Recovery

"Unbridled Recovery"
From Rock-Bottom to the Saddle, Recovery Starts Here

“Unbridled Recovery” offers a holistic, Equine-Based-Therapy to those with Substance Use Disorder (SUD),

and their families through our rescued horses

.

In 2020, although 40.3 million Americans reported having a Substance Use Disorder, only about 10% received specialized treatment, and traditional in-person therapies had a high dropout rate of 30.4%. These challenges highlight the need for more engaging treatment options.

Equine-assisted therapy is emerging as a promising alternative, offering emotional and psychological support through interactions with horses. Its holistic, experiential approach is gaining traction for addressing the complex needs of individuals in addiction recovery. Our goal is to create a complete equine therapy based program for those in all stages of recovery.

We have joined forces with Northeast Treatment Centers ( https://netcenters.org/) to bring Equine-Assisted Therapy to those in recovery, as well as their families.  This project offers a unique, one-of-a-kind opportunity to our community as the only Equine Therapy available in this area, specifically for Substance Use Disorder patients and their families.

Equine therapy dates back to early civilization, but in the 1960s, it started to gain organized momentum. Today, Equine Assisted Therapy is used to treat all disorders; however, those suffering from Substance Use Disorder (SUD) have fewer opportunities to participate in this treatment modality. Muddy Boots Horse Farm and Rescue partners with licensed and certified counselors and psychotherapists to offer individual, group, and family sessions with our Rescued Horses.

Our horses have come from trauma, auctions, abuse, and neglect. At our facility, they heal and recover from their trauma. In turn, they offer that healing to others. Through our sessions, as well as special family days and events, those who are working hard on their recovery will be given the opportunity to groom, feed, lead, and ride horses under the supervision of a certified Equine Specialist and their counselors. These sessions are designed to meet the specific needs of each individual, group, or family, and will focus on building communication, trust, and learning to regulate powerful emotions.

While the therapist observes and interacts with the patient, the Equine Specialist observes the horse. Discussion and reflection, along with a hands-on approach, give patients the chance to experience immediate feedback, mirrored by the horse, and dig deep into their own behaviors in a supportive and nonjudgmental environment.
